Ratnagiri | Weather Update
Several parts of Ratnagiri district witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by intense lightning, leading to damage to crops, houses, and public property. The sudden spell of severe weather disrupted normal life and caused panic among residents, especially in rural and coastal areas.
According to local reports, continuous rain combined with lightning strikes resulted in waterlogging in low-lying regions, while strong winds damaged electric poles and trees. Farmers reported significant losses as standing crops were flattened, raising concerns over agricultural recovery during the ongoing season.
In some areas, power supply was temporarily disrupted due to lightning-related faults, and emergency teams were deployed to restore services. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, but authorities urged citizens to remain cautious during thunderstorms.
The district administration has advised people to avoid open areas during lightning, stay away from weak structures, and closely follow weather advisories issued by the Meteorological Department. Disaster management teams remain on alert as more rain is expected in the coming days.
This incident once again highlights Ratnagiri’s vulnerability to extreme weather events during the monsoon and pre-monsoon periods, emphasizing the need for preparedness and timely warnings.
