Ratnagiri, Maharashtra:
Several schools across Ratnagiri district remained closed on Tuesday following continuous heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions that raised safety concerns for students and staff. The decision was taken by the district administration after receiving warnings from the local weather department about intense rain spells and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Educational institutions in Ratnagiri town, Chiplun, Khed, Lanja, and Rajapur talukas suspended classes for the day as a precautionary measure. In many regions, flooded roads, overflowing drains, and poor visibility made travel risky, especially for schoolchildren.
District officials stated that the situation is being closely monitored, and further decisions on reopening schools will depend on weather conditions. Parents were advised to follow official announcements and avoid sending children to schools unless clear instructions are issued.
Meanwhile, online classes were recommended by some private schools to minimize academic disruption. The administration has also urged school managements to ensure safety measures and emergency preparedness during the ongoing monsoon season.
Residents are requested to stay alert and cooperate with authorities as Ratnagiri continues to experience active monsoon conditions.
